Change gmail email address using okta
We are going through some rebranding and I need to change all employees email address in G Suite to our new domain.  I already have the new domain email address in Okta.  Using the "Update User" atttributes can I update all G Suite email addresses to the email address in Okta?

I haven't rolled out G Suite yet, but plan on doing so in the next 2 days.

  • Hello Grant,

It is my understanding that you previously had a domain for your organization.

Recently you have changed your domain to a new one.

The answer to your question would be that it depends on the way you have set

    up your G Suite integration.

Okta requires creating an username in the format of an email address. Usually

the username is the same as the email address that the username has. When you

assign an application to a group and provisioning is enabled the users are

    created automatically in G Suite.

So the usernames from Okta have been probably mapped to the old G Suite and

created as such. (e.g. in Okta username: username@olddomain.com resulted in

    creating in GSuite username: username@olddomain.com)

As I understand your question is that if you can create usernames in the new G Suite

domain by mapping the usernames' email addresses in Okta to full usernames in G Suite

so that the usernames in Okta remain the same while the usernames in G Suite are changed.

(e.g. in Okta username: username@olddomain.com, email address: username@newdomain.com

needs to result in creating in Gsuite username: username@newdomain.com).

This can be achieved by going to Directory -> Profile Editor -> Clicking the new

GSuite Application Clicking on mappings on the right hand side -> Then selecting

the tab Okta to Gsuite -> Override with mappings -> Fill in user.email as an attribute

under the column Okta User Profile and map it to userName on the right hand side under

the G Suite New User Profile column.

As a solution this would bypass the need to modify the domain for the previously

created usernames in Okta. We do strongly recommend to try this on your preview account

    first.

On the other hand if your usernames in Okta are already changed to the new domain and

the new domain is set up in G Suite as well you will have to set up a new integration

for the G Suite application in Okta.

If you require further assistance please open up a case with our Support Team and we

would be happy to provide you with more information.

    Best regards,

    Cosmin Nita
