Will changing the computer name of server break the AD agent running on it?
The server team reached out to me saying they needed to change the computer name of the server running one of our AD Agents.  Would this break the connection to Okta? Or would Okta just update the name of the server the agent is running on and not affect the functionality of the AD Agent?

  • Hi Joseph,

Alex here with Okta's Customer Support Team, thank you for reaching out to us.

After doing some preliminary tests, I was able to succesfully change the name of the computer where the agent was installed and after restarting the AD Agent it has connected automaticly.

However, we do recommend doing it on a maintenance windows, if this is the conly AD Agent for that specific domain, as every environemnt is different and we cannot know how your environment will behave on this change.

Also, as a best practice, we also recommend having at least one Okta Mastered administrator account just in case that for some reasons your AD Agents go down and AD Mastered accounts that are admins in Okta cannot login.

    Thank You,
