Error trying to edit a deactivated user profile
When I attempt to edit the profile of a deactivated user, I see the following error:

Not found: Resource not found: 00u2ey9h42DWFTLHZSXV (User)

Is it not possible to edit deactivated users? And if not, then why doesn't the Okta Admin UI restrict me from trying or at least give a friendlier message?

    Hi Justin,

Editing deactivated users is not possible, the error you are receiving when trying this is the correct response. However, we have an internal ticket to improve the Okta UI experience when an attempt is made to edit a deactivated user.

    Thank you,

I have, in the past, temporarily activated, edited, then deactivated users.

Yes, I had thought of this too. I'm primarily using the Okta API, so it's not too difficult to automate this workflow.

The problem with this is, if you need to temporarily re-activate a former user to, say, deactivate an Okta-managed account via SCIM, the re-activation notifies the user at their secondary (often personal) address. This is not appropriate.
