Adding an application to your Okta Dashboard

Most business applications (apps) are assigned to you by your internal Okta administrator. Follow your internal process for requesting apps. If your administrator has enabled self-service application assignment, you’ll see an Add Apps button in the top right-hand corner of your Okta Dashboard. Those users with the self-service application assignment can add applications by following the steps below:

  1. Click Add Apps on the left pane of your Okta Dashboard.
  2. Enter the application’s name you’d like to add in the Search the app catalog field.
  3. When the application you’re looking for appears in the dropdown menu below the search bar, click the Add button.
  4. Click My Apps on the left pane when done to return to your Okta Dashboard.

Updating your credentials in Okta

If you make changes to your username and/or password directly in any app that you manage (rather than an app that is managed by your IT team, and for which they control the credentials), the credentials must be updated in Okta for the app to continue working when launched from your dashboard.

  1. On the Okta Dashboard, click the 3 dots in the upper left corner of the application whose credentials you want to update.
  2. Click Edit in the bottom right corner.
  3. Enter your new username and password in the appropriate fields.
  4. Click Save.

Managing your Okta settings

To update your Okta account settings, including your secondary email address, security image, MFA factors, display language, etc., click your name in the upper navigation bar of your Okta Dashboard to reveal a dropdown menu and select the Settings option.

This will open a settings page where you may update or edit your information. Click Edit Profile in the upper-right corner to make changes. Note that some information may be managed by your Okta administrator and cannot be edited. Any editable fields will allow you to click them and type or select what you need to update.

Deleting an application

Only applications you have personally added to your Okta Dashboard may be deleted. Applications that have been assigned to you by your IT administrator cannot be deleted from your dashboard.

To delete a personal application:

  1. Click the 3 dots in the upper right corner of the application you want to delete.
  2. Click Edit in the lower right corner.

Changing your Okta password

If you need to change the password you use to access Okta, you can do this from the Okta Dashboard:

  1. Click the down arrow next to your name and select Settings.
  2. Click the Edit Profile button. You may be prompted to enter your current Okta password and respond to an additional MFA prompt before you’re allowed to proceed.
  3. In the Change Password window:
    • Type in your current password
    • Type in your new password
    • Repeat typing in your new password
    • Select Change Password

Your password must comply with the password complexity settings that your organization has set. You will see a text box outlining the specific requirements that your new password must meet above the field where you enter your current password.

Changing your password for an application managed by Okta

Only applications that you control may have their credentials modified. Applications that have been assigned to you and had a password set by your IT administrator cannot have their credentials modified in your Okta dashboard.

To change your password for a specific application:

  1. Hover over the application for which you’d like to update your password and click the gear icon in the upper right-hand corner of the app button.
  2. In the application settings popup that appears, select the Update Credentials option at the top of the popup box.
  3. Enter the new password you would like to use and click Save.

Resetting a forgotten Okta password

If you’ve forgotten your Okta password and your IT Administrator has enabled self-service password recovery, you can reset your Okta password from the Okta Sign In Page.

Click Need help signing in? and select the Forgot Password? link located at the bottom of the page. This will allow you to reset your password via your email. If these options are not available in your sign-on screen, call your company's help desk for assistance.
