I'm excited to share insights from the Okta Community Ask Me Anything event with the Okta Device Access Product Team. The event was a huge success and drew insightful questions about how Okta Device Access can create a secure access environment for your organization.

Top 5 Highlights:

 

1. Expanded Platform Integration and Passwordless Authentication 

   - Participants expressed interest in Okta support for additional Platform SSO features offered by Apple. This included discussions on utilizing groups to define local administrator access. 

   - The Okta team shared updates on ongoing efforts to enhance  Desktop Password Sync functionality and support other Platform SSO features, with plans for user account provisioning and user groups by the end of CY 2024. While there were no immediate plans for ABM device enrollment support, the team acknowledged the feedback for future consideration.

 

2. Device Compatibility and Support

   - Questions arose regarding the support for specific devices and technologies, such as Google ChromeOS, iPad apps, RDP, and 802.11x/RADIUS authentication.

   - Attendees sought clarification on whether Okta Device Access could be used in conjunction with various authentication methods and device management solutions, including Intune and FastPass on macOS.

 

3. Roadmap Updates and Future Enhancements

   - The Okta team provided insights into upcoming features and enhancements, such as support for WebAuthn authenticators, self-service password reset (SSPR), and passwordless login.

   - Participants were keen to understand the timeline for implementing these features, with Desktop Passwordless Login for Windows scheduled for Early Access release in April  2024 and ongoing developments aimed at enhancing user experience and security.

 

4. Integration with Apple Business Manager (ABM)

   - Questions were raised regarding the integration of Apple Business Manager with Okta for device enrollment and login experiences.

   - While greater support for auto-device enrollment and account creation/authentication was noted as a longer-term roadmap item, ongoing efforts to connect ABM with Okta were highlighted as a work-in-progress for improving device management and security.

 

5. Comparative Analysis with Jamf Connect

   - Attendees sought clarification on how Okta Device Access compares to Jamf Connect in terms of features and capabilities.

   - The Okta team emphasized that upcoming features such as automatic user creation, group management, and password sync with Okta are on the roadmap, positioning Okta Device Access to be comparable to Jamf Connect once implemented.
