Updating the SCIM Connection Configuration Using Okta API
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
API Access Management
Overview

When attempting to update the System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) connection configuration using the Okta API, the request fails or is not supported. This occurs primarily for custom Application Integration Wizard (AIW) SCIM clients and most Okta Integration Network (OIN) applications.

Applies To
  • System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM)
  • Okta API
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
Cause

The Okta API does not currently support programmatic updates to SCIM connection configurations for custom AIW SCIM clients or the majority of OIN SCIM applications. This functionality is generally restricted to the Admin Console UI, with only a limited number of specific OIN applications supporting API-based provisioning configuration.

A feature request for this functionality is tracked as Okta Idea #207979.

Solution

To modify SCIM connection settings, administrators must use the Okta Admin Console manually:

  1. Log in to the Okta Admin Dashboard.

  2. Navigate to Applications > Applications.

  3. Select the specific SCIM Application.

  4. Click on the Provisioning tab.

  5. Select Integration from the left-side menu.

  6. Click Edit, update the necessary SCIM configuration fields (such as Base URL or API Token), and click Save.

NOTE: Exceptions exist for a limited number of OIN applications that support API-based provisioning. To verify if an application supports this, refer to the documentation in the Related References section
