Schedule Full and Incremental Import Times for the Okta Workday Integration

Okta Integration Network
Okta Classic Engine
All Engines
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

By default, Okta schedules imports based on the completion time of the previous import job. Enabling the Cron-based User Import scheduling and Workday incremental import Early Access features allows administrators to schedule full and incremental imports at fixed times on specific days.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN)
  • User Lifecycle Management
  • Scheduled Imports
  • Workday
  • Early Access (EA)

Cause

By default, Okta schedules imports automatically after a configured amount of time following the completion of the previous import job. The import completion time depends on the data that changes between the two imports, which prevents imports from running at an exact fixed time. For example, with an import schedule set to once a day, if the previous import started at 6:00 PM and was completed at 6:05 PM on the same day, the next import will start at 6:05 PM the following day. The import completion time depends on the data that has changed between the two imports.

Solution

How do Cron-based scheduling and Workday incremental import features improve imports?

Enabling the Cron-based User Import scheduling and Workday incremental import features provides two main capability improvements. Administrators configure imports to run at a fixed time on specific days of the week. Additionally, administrators configure applications that support incremental imports to run both incremental and full imports on separate schedules.

NOTE: Enabling each feature adds the new capabilities without modifying existing import schedules.

Enable Cron-based User Import Scheduling in the Okta Admin Console

Enable the Cron-based User Import scheduling feature in the Okta Admin Console to control the exact time an import triggers for each application.

  1. In the Okta Admin Console, navigate to Settings > Features.
  2. Locate the Cron based User Import scheduling feature.
  3. Select the toggle to enable the feature.

Review the following image for the Cron based User Import scheduling feature toggle.

NOTE: If the feature does not appear in the list, Okta has already enabled it by default for the organization.

Request Workday Incremental Imports From Okta Support

The Workday incremental import feature provides additional settings to configure each import type separately.

Review the following image for the Workday incremental import feature settings.

Workday incremental import feature enabled

If the Workday incremental import feature is unavailable in the Okta Admin Console, contact Okta Support to request enablement. Okta Support reviews the request to determine if the organization requires additional features or entitlements.
