Okta Verify Authentication Fails on Windows When Multiple OS User Profiles Share the Same Account
Last Updated:
Overview
Okta Verify authentication fails on Windows devices with multiple Operating System (OS) user profiles when users add the same Okta account to Okta Verify under more than one profile. This occurs because Okta Verify maintains a primary registration linked only to the most recent enrollment context. Prevent multiple enrollments of the same account across different OS profiles to resolve this issue.
Applies To
- Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
- Okta Verify
- Windows
Cause
When users add the same Okta account to Okta Verify across multiple OS user profiles on a Windows device, only the enrollment associated with the last user profile to complete the setup remains fully functional. Okta Verify maintains a primary registration linked to the context of the most recent enrollment. Authentication attempts fail when users access the same Okta Verify account in a different OS user profile that does not hold the latest enrollment.
Solution
How is the Okta Verify authentication failure resolved?
Prevent multiple enrollments of the same account across different OS profiles by adhering to this guideline.
- Do not enroll the same Okta account on multiple OS profiles on the same Windows device.
