Okta Login Page Shows Up Even if the Domain is Incorrect or Does Not Exist

Overview

This article explains why a user is prompted to enter credentials after navigating to a non-existent Okta domain.

Although the credentials may be correct on another tenant, the user will receive the following error because of the incorrect URL:

Unable to sign in

Applies To
  • Okta Login
  • Okta Subdomain
Cause

Okta will always display the login page even if the Okta domain does not exist. This issue can occur when a user mistypes their Okta tenant name or lands on another page with a similar domain name.

Solution

This is expected behavior, and it applies to prevent suspicious actors from identifying whether the tenant is real or not.

Check for any typing errors in the URL and ensure that the domain name is correct.
