Okta Google Workspace Group Email Address Creation During Enhanced Group Push

Okta Integration Network
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

Okta creates Google Workspace group email addresses based on the group name and the configured Google domain during an Enhanced Group Push. Okta ignores existing Active Directory group email addresses and applies the same naming convention to both Okta-sourced and Active Directory-sourced groups.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN)
  • Google Workspace Provisioning
  • Enhanced Group Push
  • Active Directory (AD)

Solution

How does Okta create Google Workspace group email addresses during an Enhanced Group Push?

When Okta pushes a group to Google Workspace using the Enhanced Group Push feature, Okta creates the group and assigns an email address based on the group name and the Google domain configured in the Okta application. Okta applies this behavior to both Okta-sourced and Active Directory (AD)-sourced groups. Okta does not push existing email addresses from AD to Google Workspace.

Review the following tables to understand how Okta formats the Google Workspace group email address for Okta-sourced and AD-sourced groups.
