Google Workspace: Enabling App Group Renaming During New Group Push (by Name Creation)
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Okta Integration Network
Overview

When adding a new Push Group by name to the Google Workspace app, the box to change the name of the destination app group is greyed out.

Google Workspace

This article will explain how to make the destination app group text box editable and allow Okta Admin to enter their own desired app group name (different from the Okta source group name).

Applies To
  • Google Workspace
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN)
  • Create a New Push Group By Name and allow manual entry of a different app group name than the Okta source group name, if required by business.
Cause

If the destination app group textbox is greyed out during group push mapping creation, that is because the Group Push Settings has the Rename app groups to match group name in Okta checkbox checked/enabled.

Group Push Settings

Solution

To solve the issue, please apply the following configuration changes:

  1. Launch the Okta Admin Console as an Okta Super Admin role user.
  2. Navigate to Okta Admin Console > Applications > target Google Workspace app > Push Groups tab, click on the Group Push Settings represented by the gear icon.
  3. Uncheck the Rename app groups to match group name in Okta checkbox, click Save button.
  4. Attempt to create a new Group Push by name. The App Group destination name textbox is now editable, and Okta Admin users can change the target app group name to any desired group name other than the Okta source group name.

NOTE: While renaming an Okta group updates the corresponding Google Workspace group name, the email address created for that group will remain unchanged.
