Okta Custom Administrator Roles and Their Supportability
Last Updated:
Overview
Okta allows admins to create Custom Administrator roles to satisfy their specific needs and use cases. The granularity provided allows for a multitude of combinations to create niche roles.
Because of this customizability, creating these types of roles involves an inherent trial-and-error nature. This requires thorough testing by the admin to ensure the custom roles can perform the required tasks while, almost more importantly, not performing other tasks that are at a higher level of responsibility than the role is intended for.
Due to the trial-and-error process required to create custom roles, Okta Support is limited in the scope of support it can provide regarding creating and maintaining custom administrator roles. If a custom role cannot perform a specific action, Okta Support can typically assist in determining which permission is missing to allow that action to succeed.
However, Okta Support cannot assist with requests to create a custom role that can perform tasks A, B, and C while also not performing X, Y, and Z.
