Custom URL Domains
Overview

This article clarifies how specific configurations and URLs change after a custom domain is added to an organization.

Applies To
  • Custom domain configuration
  • End User dashboard
Solution
  • After adding a Custom Domain, several components configured in the Org, such as Applications (including API Service Integrations), Identity Providers, and Authorization Servers, will use this new Custom Domain in their URLs.
  • Removing a custom domain will reset the issuer mode of Identity Providers, Authorization Servers, OIDC apps, etc, back to the default Org domain.
  • The Update other Okta settings documentation outlines additional considerations after enabling the Custom Domain.
  • Returning from the Admin dashboard to the End User dashboard uses the custom domain in the URL when one is configured in the tenant.
  • The login_hint in the Help Center URL will point to the custom domain. As a result, Okta Support Center will redirect to the custom domain for login.

NOTE: The system uses the default organization URL for all configured components if the organization has two or more custom domains. To maintain the default organization domain in URLs while using one custom domain, add a secondary custom domain to the tenant.
