This article explores the potential to leverage two import methods for CSV Directory integrations, respectively, scheduled Incremental and Full Imports. It will focus on detailing the benefits and feasibility of utilizing either approach, allowing administrators to choose the most suitable method for data synchronization based on their specific requirements.
- CSV Directory
- Full Imports
- Incremental Imports
- Lifecycle Management (LCM)
In the CSV Directory integration, Admins can schedule both Incremental and Full Imports after Okta Support has enabled import scheduling or in newer tenants by default.
Scheduling imports offers the benefits of configuring imports to run on certain days of the week at a fixed period (for example, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 12:00 AM). For tenants that support Incremental Imports, this can be configured to run on a schedule.
There are two main differences between Full and Incremental imports:
- The Incremental Import will only import users created or updated since the last import. Matching rules are evaluated only on these users.
- The Full Import will import all new and existing users in the CSV. Matching rules are evaluated on all unconfirmed users. Deleted users of the CSV file are deactivated in Okta during Full Import.
To use both Incremental and Full scheduled imports for CSV integration, an Early Access feature may need to be enabled first. This feature is called "Cron based User Import scheduling" and can be found in the Okta Admin console under Settings > Features.
- If this is not listed under Early Access, it may already be enabled by default. Once the CSV Directory integration settings are populated with incremental and full import file paths, the feature will enable the option to schedule both Incremental and Full Imports.
