Overview

When a custom user type is used, the application's username is not set or updated correctly, whereas the functionality works as expected when the default user type is assigned.

This article clarifies whether a custom profile attribute can be selected as an application's username when a user is assigned a custom user type.

Applies To
  • Custom User Types
  • Okta Integration Network (OIN)
  • Custom applications
Solution
Applications integrated from the Okta Integration Network (OIN) and custom applications do not support the mapping of attributes from a custom user type. For application attribute mapping to function correctly, only the default Okta user type and its attributes must be utilized.

To create a custom user type profile, follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to Directory > Profile Editor.
  2. Select Create Okta User Type.

Create Okta User Type

To change the user type for a specific user, follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to Directory > People.
  2. Select a user.
  3. Select Change.
    Change button
  4. Select the Choose User Type dropdown list and select the custom user type profile.
    Choose User Type option
