Overview

Okta allows setting up optional user account fields for added security. If the admin has enabled a security image, a redirect will occur to the Okta Welcome Page. This happens even if they access applications through a service provider. On the Okta Welcome Page, end users will be prompted to select a security image and a forgotten password security question.

Solution

If the Okta Welcome Page is prompted unexpectedly:

  1. As an end-user, please consider:
  • Ask the admin to verify the company's optional user account fields.
  • Complete the actions on the Okta Welcome Page.
  1. From https://<companyname>.okta.com/user/welcome, select a security image, then click Create My Account.
    • NOTE: Clicking Create My Account does not affect the current account settings or permissions.
  2. Choose a forgot password question.
  3. Enter the answer.
  4. Click Create My Account.
  • NOTE: This does not disrupt any current account settings that might be in place.
  1. As an Admin, verify the Optional User Account fields.
    1. From the admin console, select Settings > Customization > Optional User Account Fields.
    2. Click Edit to make changes, if desired.
    3. Click Save to save the changes.
