Okta Verify Push Authentication Issue
Okta Classic Engine
Multi-Factor Authentication
Overview
There are a few common scenarios when the Okta Verify Push factor does not work properly:
  1. The Push notification is not received.
  2. The Push notification reaches the mobile device with delays.
  3. After approving the Push, it takes a long time for the login to complete.
This article outlines basic troubleshooting steps for the Okta Verify Push factor in the situations above.
Applies To
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
  • Okta Verify
  • Okta Classic Engine
Solution

If Okta Verify Push Authentication does not work, but entering the 6-digit token works, then check the following:

  • Confirm that the device's Date and Time are set to Network (or Automatic).
  • The Okta Verify App may be set up on both the Work and Personal profiles of the phone. If so, remove it from both and reinstall where it is intended.
  • (Android) Confirm that the background data usage is enabled under app settings for Okta Verify.

If this does not resolve the issue, make sure of the following:

  1. Ensure there is a stable network connection or mobile data connection by opening the mobile browser and navigating to the organization's Okta website. In this case, restarting the settings is recommended.
  2. Reboot the device.
  3. Ensure the device is not Jailbroken and does not have a custom security layer or other applications that could interfere with the delivery of notifications.
  4. Check if the mobile device is connected to a VPN; some VPN policies may block incoming TCP requests associated with OV Push.

If Push Authentication still does not work, please contact the organization's IT department for assistance.
