This article covers how to convert an existing user's application assignment from group assignment type to individual assignment type without the need to remove the user's group membership.

NOTE: Converting administrator role assignments from group-based to individual-based is not currently supported for the Okta Admin Console.
Follow the video or the steps below.
- Access the Okta Admin Console.

Navigate to Applications > Applications.

Select the relevant application by name.

Select the Assignments tab.

Ensure Filters > People is selected.

Locate the app user assignment with the Group type listed that Admins would like to convert to an individual app assignment.

Admins should see the Edit User Assignment screen. Locate Assignment Master or Assignment Source, and change from Group to Administrator (overrides group). Click the Save button.

The App user assignment type should now be changed to the Individual type.

(Optional) If it is necessary to convert individually owned app assignments back to group-owned app assignments, please follow the Okta documentation instructions in Convert app integrations from individually owned to group-managed.
