Convert an existing user application assignment from a group assignment type to an individual assignment type without removing the user from the group. Modify the assignment source in the Okta Admin Console to override the group assignment.

What are the steps to convert an Okta application assignment from a group to an individual assignment?

Navigate to the application assignments in the Okta Admin Console, select the user, and change the assignment source to override the group assignment as detailed in either the video demonstration or the written instructions.

NOTE: Converting administrator role assignments from group-based to individual-based is not currently supported for the Okta Admin Console.

1. Access the Okta Admin Console.
2. Go to Applications > Applications.
3. Select the relevant application by name.
4. Select the Assignments tab.
5. Ensure Filters > People is selected.
6. Locate the application user assignment with the Group type listed to convert to an individual application assignment.
    
7. Locate Assignment Master or Assignment Source on the Edit User Assignment screen, and change the value from Group to Administrator (overrides group).
8. Select Save.
   
9. Verify the application user assignment type displays as the Individual type.
    
10. (Optional) Convert individually owned application assignments back to group-owned application assignments by following the instructions in Convert app integrations from individually owned to group-managed.
