Google Workspace Error "Domain user limit reached. Contact Support" When Provisioning a User From Okta

Okta Integration Network
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

When provisioning a new user to Google Workspace in the Okta dashboard, the following error appears:

Push new user to external application failure: Domain user limit reached. Contact Support.

Applies To

  • Google Workspace
  • Provisioning
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Okta Identity Engine (OIE)

Cause

The error Domain user limit reached when provisioning a user from Okta to Google Workspace indicates that the number of user licenses available in the Google Workspace account has been exhausted. This error is returned by Google, not Okta, and prevents Okta from creating new users.

Solution

Follow the steps below to resolve the error:
  1. Verify License Count in Google Workspace:
    • The first step is to check the current usage and limits of the Google Workspace subscription. This can be done by logging into the Google Admin Console and navigating to the Billing section. This will display how many licenses are available and how many are currently in use.
  2. Increase the Number of Licenses:
    • If the user limit has been reached, additional licenses must be purchased from Google.
    • More licenses can typically be added directly from the Billing section of the Google Admin Console.
  3. Contact Google Workspace Support:
    • If the user limit has not been reached or if there is trouble purchasing additional licenses, Google Workspace support should be contacted. They can confirm the account's status and help resolve any discrepancies or issues with the user limit.
  4. Retry the Provisioning Task in Okta:
    • Once the license count has been increased in Google Workspace, the failed provisioning task can be retried in Okta. This can be done from the Okta Admin Console, where the failed task should be visible.
