Error when Editing Linked Object Custom Attribute "You do not have permission to perform the requested action"
Okta Identity Engine
Administration
Overview

Users with Custom Admin Roles may run into the following error when trying to edit a Linked Object Custom Attribute:

You do not have permission to perform the requested action

Error Message

Applies To
  • Custom Admin Roles
  • Linked Object Custom Attributes
  • Permissions
Cause
When working with Custom Admin Roles, if the role is assigned to specific groups, the assigned admin will only be able to link one user to another user (using the Linked Object Custom Attribute), if both users are members of the group(s) that are assigned to the Custom Admin Role.
Solution

Ensure that the Custom Admin role is assigned a Resource Set that includes the users and/or groups that are being linked. For example:

If User A is in Group A and User B is in Group B, then the Resource Set applied to the Custom Admin Role must include both Group A and Group B in order to link User A and User B through a Linked Object Custom Attribute.
