Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine
Okta Integration Network
Overview

Initial app assignment or provisioning of a user to the Salesforce.com application has failed with the error:

An Error Occurred While Provisioning Salesforce.com Automatic Provisioning of User to App Salesforce.com Failed: License Limit Exceeded - Salesforce Please Fix This on the Tasks Page error.

From the Tasks page (Dashboard > Tasks) in Okta, Admins see the following error:

Automatic provisioning of user to app Salesforce.com failed: License Limit Exceeded.

Applies To
  • Salesforce
  • Provisioning
  • Salesforce Licensing
  • SCIM
Cause

This issue occurs when Admins assign a user to an application integration and attempt to grant the user a role or licensing level that the Admins do not possess for the Salesforce tenant. When assigning the user to the Salesforce application, the SCIM connector makes an API call to Salesforce, and the error is thrown by Salesforce during the Salesforce license check.

For more information on the error, see this Salesforce article: Error 'License limit exceeded' when you use API to assign feature licenses

Solution
  1. Ensure that sufficient Salesforce licensing exists before user assignment on the Salesforce tenant. If Admins need any assistance checking the available Salesforce license count, please contact the Salesforce Administrator or Salesforce Support Team directly, as described in the Contact Salesforce Customer Support article.
  2. After confirming that a sufficient number of licenses have been obtained on the Salesforce instance, please have the Okta Administrator locate the previously failed application assignment or provisioning update task and click Retry Selected on the Okta Admin Console > Dashboard Tasks page.
