Need to disable MFA authentication, need only password for authentication

Recently i have created a new okta dev instance through Okta free integrator plan but while logging in with the admin account it is asking for okta verify code/fastpass every time. Could anyone please help me here how can i avoid this Okta verify code or the fastpass while using admin account. I just want only password for the authentication, no other MFA required

  • Hello @PracticeM.61191 (Customer) Thank you for posting on our Community page!

MFA is required for the Admin portal, please note that if you remove the MFA you will get locked out and there will be no way to provide assistance with recovering your account on a Free Developer.

You can check our doc below as well:

@PracticeM.61191 (Customer)  you could potentially change the re-authentication frequency to longer interval but you cannot remove MFA for admin. If you try doing that, you will be locked out of the tenant.

If you don't like okta verify, may be enable and use other factors if possible. No MFA is not an option.

Thank you for your response @RohitU.50441 (Trevonix) and @paul.stiniguta1.508386743840768E12 (Okta, Inc.) I got your point but still having one doubt would MFA is applicable only for admin account or for all the regular users as well ?

the linked article says it is only for admin console though?

    https://www.okta.com/blog/2025/08/making-mfa-mandatory-for-securing-the-admin-console-front-door/

we created new users (regular user) in the admin console but the new login rules apply to all accounts. we tried both types of logins and MFA is required in all login attempts. if that's not the case please guide me through how can i disable MFA for regular user.

@PracticeM.61191 (Customer) MFA prompts are policy driven and is mandatory for admins only.

I think the default policy would force MFA on every user. Below is how you can disable MFA for end users.

    - Create a separate enrollment policy and make password as required and disable other factors (make sure to assign this to end user group not to everyone. If you choose everyone you may get locked out as well from admin console)

    - Create a new authentication policy and instead of the default any factor, choose password only.

    - assign end user dashboard to the above policy and other apps you want.
