MeekK.96952 (Customer) asked a question.

Trying to accomplish Passwordless Authentication for specific users.

Greetings, All,

I hope everyone is doing well. I am currently working on implementing passwordless login for a specific set of users. I followed the steps outlined in this KB article: "https://help.okta.com/oie/en-us/content/topics/identity-engine/password-optional/password-optional-disabled.htm" Password Optional - Okta, but unfortunately, I wasn't able to achieve the desired result.

After investigating the logs, I can see that the policy rules I created are being triggered, but users are still being prompted for a password.

Has anyone here had experience with this configuration? If so, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share any insights or findings that might help me resolve this issue.

Thank you in advance for any assistance!

Hello @MeekK.96952 (Customer) Thank you for posting on our Community page!

If you have the Password option set as Optional then you need to remove the password based on your doc:

Transition password-using users to password-optional or passwordless users

To remove the password enrollment for a user, go to DirectoryPeople. In person, go to Reset or remove passwordRemove password.

Otherwise when the user logs in, they will still be prompted for the password. Additionally you can remove the Password option completely and that should fix it.

Thank you for reaching out to our Community and have a great day!

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for getting back. SO i did perform the reset/remove password step for my test user initially, however issue still persisted.

How can i remove the password option completely? Could you please guide me on how to completely remove the password option? Also, would this action affect other users, or will it only impact those for whom I specifically remove the password option?

    Thank you for your assistance.
