hl4mf (hl4mf) asked a question.

Integration multiple Jira sites in same Atlassian workspace with Okta

Hello,

We are facing an integration issue between Okta and Atlassian.

We have multiple Jira sites with different links but within the same Atlassian workspace.

These sites are configured with different privileges for employees based on their roles, they can only access the sites they need.

We have a goal to collect all these Jira sites (instances like Confluence, multiple Jira, Service Desk, etc.) in one okta dashboard that should be accessible (displayed) based on user permissions.

Okta Atlassain Cloud OIN app only supports 1 Jira base URL, but some of our employees do not have access to the main site and Jira sends them an error message, which is normal.

To solve this issue, I tried to clone the Atlassian Cloud app via API in hopes of assigning different apps with the correct links, and correct displayable sites depending on the privileges to the right users, but unfortunately I can't clone the entity ID between apps and as a result I can't connect other Atlassian Cloud apps to Jira using different entites.

Also, we can't add another connection of idp provider to our Atlassian workspace.

Can you help us find a suitable solution for this purpose?

Thank you!

  • Hi @hl4mf (hl4mf) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

As far as I can see this is not a supported use case. The default app is limited to those URLs.

Not sure if this will work, but you could look into potentially hiding the default app from the users and leveraging Bookmark apps for the specific URLs if the Atlassian side supports SP initiated logins.

    Example:

Assuming that the SAML authentication is at domain level, you could set up a bookmark app with the URL for JIRA-site 1 and one for JIRA-site 2, then assign these bookmark apps to the different dedicated groups, so that some users only see "JIRA-site 1" on their dashboard and the other see "JIRA-site 2".

You will need to test to see if just leveraging the correct URL will trigger the authentication flow and that the users land on the correct page. I've see the "fromURL" being dropped after authentication for some apps so depending how it goes the users may be authenticated but end up on some home page instead of the intended resource.

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!
