Get free Okta Personal account without Auth0 Portal

Hi, I locked myself out of my Okta developer account. So I need to get a new one. But, I always end up getting an Auth0 Dashboard, which has a different workflow than previous Okta personal account that I am already used to. With the Okta custom identity cloud, it is always Auth0, I cannot seem to get back to the familiar Okta personal account with Okta admin console. How can I get a free Okta personal account just like I used to?

For instance, with Okta admin console, I go to: https://xxxxxx-admin.okta.com I create an SAML app., assign users to it. Then user can login from https://xxxxxx.okta.com, and testing the IdP initiated flow.

I cannot seem to figure it out with auth0 portal, there does Not seem to be a concept of Admin Url and then a separate Auth0 app URL. I am asking two questions, 1) how to get back to the free Okta Developer Admin Console with personal account 2) does Auth0 portal (custom identity cloud) have one Admin URL and another App URL for users? thanks!

Hi @User17369606041144141826 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

For Okta Personal support please check https://support.oktapersonal.com/ , but I assume you are referring to a WIC (Workforce Identity Cloud) account.

To sign up for a new free developer/trial account, please visit https://developer.okta.com/signup/

Please note that free developer/trial accounts are only recoverable via self-service provided that you have configured the appropriate policies and backup accounts.

As such please make sure to set up MFA for your Admin account as well as self-service password recovery options.

The MFA will be required on all orgs and no admins will be exempt.

We recommend reviewing the Frequently Asked Questions article on this subject.

Self-service Password Reset configuration details can be found here:

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!

  • Good to know. I am a bit confused with Workforce Identity Cloud vs. Custom Identity Cloud.

Okta Admin Console (Okta personal account, the one I had) is free, but WIC has only 30-day trial, is WIC replacing the previous Okta Admin Console/Portal that comes with personal account?

    • Mihai N. (Okta, Inc.)

Custom Identity Cloud is the Auth0 side of things. For details about that, you can check https://support.auth0.com/.

WIC 30day trial is for the Okta IAM/SSO/Workflows etc. and the developer account is not on a time base trial, but is limited to developer focused implementations like OIDC, SDK, API.

      Regards,

      Okta Support.

  • I see! I just got a trial account, now I am in the familiar Okta Admin console, however the domain clearly says it is trial, and dashboard says 30 days left. My Okta console says: https://trial-8xxxxx6-admin.okta.com/... compared to what used to be: https://dev-1xxxxx8-admin.okta.com. It seems to be what used to be free to developer now is valid only for 30 days, that is OK, I just want to confirm this is the case.

In addition, I need to create SAML2 App in Admin console, this now has a limit for 30 days since it falls into SSO category?

    thanks,

SSO apps are available for the paid accounts and in a limited fashion for the trail account.

The free developer accounts are limited to OIDC, SDK, API. That being said, developer accounts could be upgraded to paid versions that would include features as needed, but for that you would have to discuss with the colleagues from Okta Sales.

      Regards.
