Setup MFA with non US and Canada phone number to admin backoffice

When trying to login to the admin back office we get

Your company requires multifactor authentication to add an additional layer of security when signing in to your XYZ account

We're based outside of US/Canada and don't have phone numbers like this

What do we do?

    Ideally, you should be able to set up another factor that doesn't require a US/Canada phone number (such as Okta Verify with push notifications).

     

    If no other option is available, you may need to raise a ticket with Support. If you have a paid account, you can do so here. Please contact your Account Executive if you encounter trouble opening a ticket despite having a paid account and the right admin permissions.

     

    Regarding the use of SMS or voice verification factors:

    1. The use of international numbers can be enabled upon request. Please discuss this with your Account Executive, as some features may include additional costs.
    2. If your company wants to use these factors, you may want to look into bringing your own telephony. In 2023, Okta stopped offering out-of-the-box telephony services for all net new customers, and starting September 15, 2024, upon renewal, Okta will extend that policy to all customers. Although Customers are free to choose to continue to use SMS and voice for authentication by bringing their own provider, Okta urges customers to consider higher-assurance out-of-the-box authenticators such as Okta Verify, FastPass, and FIDO2 Webauthn.
