Multi-tenancy request and restrictions

1. Can we add a new tenant to our dev account?

2. How many tenants can we have per account? Do we have any restrictions like tenants per account, users per tenant?

3. We want to check if the SSO solution will be suitable to our needs (specifically multi-tenancy). How we can do it?

Hi @User17043169148034361689 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

This is a very broad topic and I’m not sure it can be covered via the public forum.

That being said, I’ll try to explain as best as I can.

For the sake of clarity, we need to clarify the terminology typically used by Okta.

An “account” would be the company name under which a contract would be set up. If we’re talking about a free developer org, then there is no account, just a tenant.

A “tenant” would be the equivalent of what is commonly named an “org”. You can set up as many orgs as you want because they are all managed individually, with the possibility of implementing certain features that allow automations and provisioning for better management of multiple environments (Org2Org).

For the purposes of “branding”, an org can also have up to 3 custom domains with the possibility of increasing the limit, most likely at a cost.

Multi-tenancy is discussed in this article, but for a detailed discussion on what fits your organization, I recommend reaching out to our sales team.

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!
