PabelM.40600 (Customer) asked a question.
Context: Currently using BambooHR as our HRIS and we are looking to add a custom field called "Sub department" so I can do add assignments to that rather than doing it to department (we consolidated teams so there are multiple teams under one department).
Steps so far:
-Worked with BambooHR to have the custom field show up with in Okta when I add the attribute (it wasn't previously).
-Technical:
- Display Name: Sub Department Okta
- Variable Name: bamboohr.customSubDepartmentOkta
- External Name: customSubDepartmentOkta
-Added a custom attribute in the "User" default profile in Okta.
-Technical:
- Display Name: Sub Department
- Variable Name: user.subdepartment
- Source Priority: "Inherit from profile source" (BambooHR)
-Tried doing a test map from "bamboohr.customSubDepartmentOkta" to any other string field in Okta and still got NULL values.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @PabelM.40600 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!
If BambooHR is the profile source for the users and you do not have scheduled imports configured, you might have to first trigger an import to pull new profile data from the app then test the mappings.
That being said, not knowing all the details, I would recommend working with a Support Engineer so that they can review your configuration before running imports that might cause unwanted updates.
If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.
Hope my answer helps!
