Email change and push to AD/O365 via Okta

Is anyone writing primary email smpt back to Active Directory or 365 directly when someone is in need of an email change?

We are creating the mailbox automatically via Okta,365, and AD on-prem, but the current setup is only doing creation, not updates, as I wasn;t sure how the attributes in AD will be overridden (as in replaced via appended) .

We don;t have an AD test tenant or 365 so I am unable to test.

Hi @Alexandra NoemiV.17302 (Customer) , Thank you for reaching out to the Okta Community!

I'll have to defer this to anyone in the Community who actually did this as I've only seen it done with a Okta to O365 implementation as per the following documentation:

    https://support.okta.com/help/s/article/How-to-populate-the-O365-email-alias-attribute-for-non-Active-Directory-users?language=en_US

I essence, setting up a custom array attribute (in the example below I called it "ADproxyAddress") plus mapping to push to the downstream app via Provisioning by leveraging the ProxyAddresses attribute for O365.

Where upper case "SMTP" would be the primary.

In your case with out a test environment, testing this in production would be risky.

If my answer helped, remember to mark it as best to increase its visibility for other members of the Okta Community who might have the same questions as you.

    Hope my answer helps!
