Conflict between Okta Verify and Microsoft Authenticator

Hi,

I am trying to figure out why this happens:

  • Have two Office 365 accounts from org A and B. A requires Okta Verify MFA and B Microsoft Authenticator.
  • In Outlook webmail on PC A sends push notice to Okta and B to MS Auth Everything works.
  • In Outlook on Mobile both send push notice to MS Auth and A's login fails, B succeeds.
  • Have tried removing account A from MS Auth in mobile unit and MS Auth from MS myaccount for A.

Thank you in advance.

    Hi @User16219248776042697980 (Customer),

Thank you for posting on the Okta community page!

I would try to determine if the issue resides within the Outlook mobile app by trying to authenticate to Outlook from a browser by using your mobile device and see if the same behaviour occurs. Also, if it works as expected, I would try to uninstall the Outlook app completely from the mobile device and re-configure it when installing it again.

In addition to the above, you can try to capture a Fiddler trace on your mobile device while reproducing the behaviour to see if any errors are appearing or to see where the flow breaks in order to identify the root cause of the issue. Below, I have provided a documentation on how to capture a Fiddler trace and at the bottom of the article, you can find two links that provide guidance on how to capture this trace on an IOS/Android device.

I hope the above information is useful!
