Admind.22338 (Customer) asked a question.

What is the difference between different Github Applications

I'm setting up Okta integration with Github Enterprise Cloud and I see three possible applications for me. Github Enterprise Cloud - Enterprise Accounts, Github Enterprise Cloud - Organization, and GitHub Enterprise Managed User. We aren't using the Enterprise Managed Users feature so the third option is out. But the other two have me confused.

The GitHub docs say they support SSO, SCIM, and Team Sync at the Org level which would lead me to the Github Enterprise Cloud - Organization application, but that application says it doesn't support Team Sync.

Meanwhile the Github Enterprise Cloud - Enterprise Accounts application says it support SAML, SCIM, and Workflow connections. Which would be nice but according to GitHub's docs they don't support SCIM at the enterprise level unless you use the Enterprise Managed Users.

I'd appreciate some clarity, the only docs in the Okta KB refer to the Organization Application, except for the GitHub Connector in Workflows, but that appears to have limited docs.

    Hi @Admind.22338 (Customer),

Thank you for posting on the Okta community page!

I have looked at the applications within my tenant and it seems like you could use the Github Enterprise Cloud - Organization application for the Team Sync functionality from the application side because on the application page in Okta, it is mentioned that the app supports Okta workflow connections as shown in the screenshot provided bellow:image.png

I would also recommend to firstly try the new integration in a preview environment with a few test users before moving to production to make sure that everything is configured correctly and that no issues will appear in the prod environment.

I hope I understood your inquiry and that the above information is helpful!
