9zce6 (9zce6) asked a question.
We just federated our O365 tenant to Okta. We had a mailbox that was authenticated to SMTP through Thunderbird with no issues. We created an okta account for this mailbox, and tried to authenticate to Thunderbird but it will not authenticate. I can login to Okta and outlook.office.com with no issues with the same password. Legacy auth has been enabled but still nothing.

Hi Nicholas,
This is Bogdan with Okta support.
Tried to research your inquiry but due to having too less information in regards to the error message (if any) or with the behavior that is occurring while trying to authenticate in Thunderbird, I am not quite sure where to pinpoint the issue.
Based on a quick research if upon clicking done, there will be a message saying "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password", disabling the security defaults and should allow you to manage to sign in and retrieve emails with Thunderbird.
But this really depends on the error message that you receives while trying to authenticate and also the events that are generated in office365 logs while the authentication request is made.
I would recommend opening a Support ticket including more details of the behavior and also include the usernames of some affected accounts.
Thank You,
