How to add form labels to Okta self-registration widget

With the self-registration feature enabled, if we navigate to the signup page from the Okta hosted sign-in widget, the form fields only display the title as a placeholder in the field. I'm needing to customize this page so that the user can enter their birthdate as 3 separate fields for the month, day, and year. I'd like for these to be side by side so I'm working on some JS/CSS to handle this. One issue I'm not sure the best way to handle is the labels for each field. I've seen some different discussions both in the sign-in widget GitHub repo as well as other community questions that reference this. It seems that Okta has made the decision to start going in the direction of having explicit form field labels, which you can see on the sign-in widget. Is there a more official way for me to introduce this change for the self-registration page as well? I've attached some screenshots below for reference as well as the github discussion where it was mentioned that Okta is going in this direction. It's fairly old, so I'm a bit surprised this hasn't made its way to self-registration yet.
