How can I change 'Windows password' to something more generic on initial activation?

We've started to roll Okta out to a test group. When activating their accounts from the email prompt, they immediately get asked for their 'Windows password' per attached screenshot.

We're an organization that has Windows, macOS and Linux devices, and some devices are not domain joined, so this is a bad prompt.

We would want it to say something like 'Single Sign-On Password' but I can't find where this would be changed in the Customization options.

    Greetings Ed !

This is Andrei on behalf of Okta's Customer's Support !

The message that you are seeing there looks hard-coded , although, I would like to know your setup on this and why the users are getting prompted with that message instead of the default Okta login page.

I would strongly suggest to open a support ticket about this so that we can document the behavior and gather any additional details related to this issue !

  • Thanks Andrei,

I did open a support request, and was told that because we are using Active Directory delegated authentication, that's the message that appears.

I think the assumption has been made somewhere that AD Authentication = Windows Authentication, though of course for us that's not the case (50% of our users are non Windows, but their identities are mastered by AD).
