DavidP.24170 (Customer) asked a question.

Display AWS EC2 Name when using sft list-servers command

In Advanced Server Access, Is there a way to get the DOS command line tool sft -listservers command to display the value that's in the AWS EC2 "Name" field in the AWS EC2 interface?

Our support team has asked if it would be possible for this value to be displayed when using the SFT command line tools (specifically sft list-servers).

The current value displayed for "HOSTNAME" in sft just displays a generic name like IP-10-10-xx-xx. Would be handy if we could have the AWS EC2 Name field displayed somewhere as this is more descriptive of the server and its purpose.

Currently they have to log into the AWS interface and match up the IP to the name to locate the correct server. Having the Name value displayed would save a lot of time and steps if we could eliminate having to look up the name in AWS first.

Thank you!

    Hi David,

I spent some time trying sft list-servers options and other commands, but could not get to pull the value you want. I also asked around and I was suggested sft list-servers -o describe but did not obtain the desired result.

It is possible that the value is stored on AWS and not on the server, but it seems it cannot be reached via SFT. I would suggest looking at the related AWS documentation and see if your Support Team can use an alternative to retrieve this field value.
