Hi Red - I saw that demo as well, and got very excited. But at the present time, that version of Okta Verify can only be used to register devices with Okta for the purpose of enabling FastPass. I'm really hoping that Okta will turn that into a full-blown version that can be used as an MFA factor.

There was a feature called Okta Mobility Management, which had features similar to other MDM solutions, including provisioning apps to mobile devices, but that feature is no longer offered to new customers. Details are here.

Unfortunately, Okta Verify is only available for mobile devices. Personally, I'd love to have a desktop version, too, since it would allow us to provide our users with a simple, secure MFA solution for all clients. Until then, I usually recommend one of several desktop utilities that are compatible with Google Authenticator, such as WinAuth or Authy.

Thank you for the response Mike. Based on the FastPass demo video from Okta (https://www.okta.com/platform/devices/) it seems there is a Windows version of Okta Verify. I don't have more details than that just now. Once I get a response from Okta I will post it here.

BTW, is it possible to push software to BYOD devices using Okta, we have looked at EMM but it doesn't seem like it pushes software like an MDM solution or SCCM would.

Thank you Mike. Your advice is very helpful and appreciated. How do I mark it as the answer and close this post?

  • Yep, the Fastpass feature which is a roadmap item to allow a passwordless experience for Windows, MacOs, iOS and Android will require Okta Verify to be installed on a BYOD machine.

Okta devices, another roadmap item will allow a laptop/device to be recognised as "managed" as it will bind the device to the end users profile and can work with an MDM to collect context to enhance the Okta risk based engine.
