jmk44 (jmk44) asked a question.
Hello,
I have had a situation where by an administrator of a downstream application (Google in this case) has accidentally updated the password on literally 1000's of our users, myself included. For me, I found I just logged into Okta and reset my password and this triggered an event to update the password in the application (Google).
This got me thinking, how can I force Okta to update the application password without a user needing to reset their password? As you can imagine this has the potential to kick users of mobile apps that may be using direct authentication to the application.
Looking at this Okta support article, https://support.okta.com/help/s/article/Password-Synchronization-Overview*OktaToApplicationSyncOktaPassword , it appears that a "native login to okta" should trigger the application password update. I do not see this, at present, but then maybe I do not understand what constitutes a native login? A colleague suggested that it will not update unless the user logs in after reassigned to the app. Is this true?
At the end of the day I am trying to figure out the best way to get the passwords back in sync between Okta and Google. Any help would be greatly appreciated as our organisation has just deployed Okta and I am new to the product.
Thanks for any help.
Grant
