h4r1g (h4r1g) asked a question.

Automatic provisioning of user XXXXXX to app Slack failed: Error while verifying if user XXXX@XXXXX.com exists

The user has several apps but I'm only getting this error with slack

Automatic provisioning of user XXXXXX to app Slack failed: Error while verifying if user XXXX@XXXXX.com exists: Errors during execution: Error executing checkUserExists: Unauthorized. Errors reported by the connector : {"Errors":{"description":"invalid_authentication","code":401}}. Error Code: null

  • Hi Lazaro,

This issue can happen when your provisioning is not set to create the users on the app end. As such Okta will attempt to match the Okta user with a user already created inside of Slack with the same information that you are providing to push, mainly username, email, first name and last name.

If the user does not exists within Slack, this would be a normal error to be returned as Okta does not have the option to created the user. If you want to create, provision, new users from Otka to Slack I do suggest making sure that the Create Users is checked within you Okta Slack application under the provisioning tab.

I hope my answers provides more details regarding this and that you get to a resolution.

    Thank you.

  • George here with Okta's Customer Support Team, thank you for reaching out to us.

I would start by verifying the API integration and re-authenticate it if necessary.

Also a good idea is to check for the External ID for the specific user in the assignment tab. if this one is missing I would remove the app assignment re-import the user from the source of truth and re-assign it to the app.

If all fails, remove the user from Okta, re-import it and re-assign it.

    Thank You.

I have the same error with every single user. I manage 10+ apps through Okta and this error is only showing on Slack(because everybody is supposed to get access to it) and with the users authorized to use Lucidchart. I will still try the solutions that you provided me. If there is something else that comes to your mind as a solution please let me know. Thanks for your help
