bwvcy (bwvcy) asked a question.

How do you add users to a group in bulk.

I was creating a list (imported via csv) of Okta-mastered users, and I had to add each user to a group manually. I know that I can do a bulk activation of users, but how do you add users to a group in bulk. There has to be a way to filter particular users from the staged group and add them to a group.

I don’t think there is an option OOB, but if you have used import user via CSV and are able to create Group assignment rules.

You could define a custom Okta attribute, create a group assignment rule that assigns user, if that value is set to the group and then run the csv import with the additional attribute.

Group assignment rule should trigger and auto assign the groups with in minutes.

While this may be a workaround, it is worth submitting an enhancement request.

      Hi Jatin-

Thanks for your response! When you say create a group assignment rule can you elaborate on that, please. I did ponder about adding an attribute to the CSV import. I have to figure out the assignment rule part.

Under Groups table there should be two sub tabs. All and Rules. It is here that you can define your own rules for group assignment.

If you do not see that tab in your Okta tenant. You may want to create a case and request for that option.

    Regards,

    Jatin

Oh okay, I see it. I created a rule and added the attribute to the CSV and imported it. It worked! Thanks again for the workaround.

Unable to add a user to my list.  Error message occurs stating the field already exists (referring to the user's email address), however, the user is not showing up on any lists within the organization. Thanks.
