00t74 (00t74) asked a question.

Can a group in OKTA be deleted

We are getting ready to federate OKTA from Active Directory. I noticed in OKTA that there are groups that I am not finding in AD and would like to remove them. Is there a way to delete groups inside OKTA?

There are Okta mastered groups and there are groups mastered by apps. Go to Directory > Groups. There will be a "Source" column. This shows where the group is mastered. If it's an Okta logo, then it's an Okta mastered group and you can delete it right in Okta. If it shows any other logo or the source is blank, then it's mastered by a separate app/directory and you cannot delete it directly in Okta.

There's a couple ways to get rid of those groups. You can remove the group from the source and then run an import into Okta. So let's say you have an integration with G Suite and have imported G Suite mastered groups into Okta. You delete the group on the G Suite side. Then you go to the G Suite app in your Okta org and run an import. Okta will see the group is gone and proceed to remove it from Okta. The second method I know if is to delete the app entirely.

Here's some general docs on groups:

OKTA mastered groups can be deleted directly from OKTA (directories-> groups-> source see the blue circle of OKTA in the source). The app mastered groups can be deleted from app directly or delete the app with that group and recreate the app excluding that specific group.
