that will work, in a nutshell thats exactly what Universal Directory and Single Sign On do within Okta. Of course there are dozens of methods, conditions and things to think of, but yes, this is definitely possible.

    Thanks for the response

Can you suggest the steps that I can follow to segregate the application into a group and then assign that group to a user

  • Hi Manish!

Thanks for posting on our community! We're glad that we can help you out!

As HenkJan mentioned, this is 100% achievable.

And here's a more in depth view and configuration that you can take advantage of.(Assuming that we're looking at either AD/Okta Mastered Groups and the users already exists in Okta)

    1. Create a group rule by specifying what user's attributes/user's memberships will be then assigned to what group.
    2. After routing the users to that "new" group that we've used in the group rule, we can then assign the user's group to the App.
    3. Please keep in mind, that any automation process that you will want to take advantage of, using the group rules, will need to be activated, by clicking on the dropdown option and choosing the "Activate" option.
    4. Now, all new users that will be routed to the "new group" through the group rule(again, based on anything that you would like[user's attributes, user's group membership or cooking an expression using our Expression Language: https://developer.okta.com/reference/okta_expression_language/]) will have access to the app, if the new group is assigned to the app.

We will be more than happy to discuss and elaborate what you can achieve with group rules for automation, if you call us or open a support ticket. However, here are some helpful links that can get you going avoiding the hustle of calling us.

Let me be very specific with the problem.

    1. I want to group the applications not users
    2. Suppose I have a user which uses 5 applications.
    3. So Instead of assigning each application separately I will assign this "application group" to that user.
    4. The user will then click on the group and view all the applications.
    5. On clicking any application the user accesses the application through SSO

Two different "application group" can have same applications.

  • Hi Manish,

I'm glad that you are interested in what I like to call a first assessment on the desired workflow.

Since we want to express value to your needs and we don't want to share personal information on our community page, I will recommend opening a support ticket with us, sharing a best phone number to be reached at and we can have an engineer helping you understanding what you can achieve with okta.

If you will wish to call us and have an engineer open the support ticket for you, here are the information:

    US: 800-219-0964

    AU: 1800 095 441

    FR: 0800 91 49 49

    NL: 0800 022 4471

    UK: 0800 808 5574

As soon as we will receive your support request, it will be just a matter of minutes to be reached by one of my colleagues. Who knows, maybe I will be the engineer assigned to the case.

    Thank you,
