SimonS.16968 (Customer) asked a question.

Sign in Widget and MFA basic example of client setup configutation

Detailed Description: I have applications that currently set up with MFA and works fine when using the okta hosted login page. When converting over to using the sign in widget I can get the login process working but unable to implement sign in widget for MFA.

I get this error: OAUTH_ERROR: The client specified not to prompt, but the client app requires re-authentication or MFA.

Please note I understand how to set up the policy etc. for the apps on the dashboard for MFA. It is the client Sign In Widget that I have no idea how to configure to display and handle the MFA challenge views. I can find zero examples of how to do this.

Thanks for any help.

  • Hello Simon. Additional information would be needed to troubleshoot this, but I have an initial suspicion. Are you using app-level or org-level MFA? If you're using app-level MFA, the issue may be that accessing the app requires MFA, but the widget is unable to handle that request. I believe there may be an existing feature request for this functionality.

As a general reference, linked below is the "Okta Sign-In Widget Guide":

    https://developer.okta.com/code/javascript/okta_sign-in_widget

As additional information would be needed, I recommend opening a support case by emailing support@okta.com.

Could you send a link to that feature request? I also need this feature
