What are the ramifications of changing the Okta username format from email address to SAM accountname?
When I initially set up my first apps and synchronized to my AD, I decided to use the email address as the Okta Username.

 

Now, because of testing efforts with a new application we are developing internally, I may need to change it to something the SAM Account name. None of the test accounts need or have email addresses, and there are reason why we would like to leave that attribute blank.

 

At the moment, the only two apps I have are configured for users to be automatically logged in when they go to the respective URLs.

 

What would be the ramifications for changing the Okta username format?

    The Okta username format controls how the users log in to the Okta portal itself.  You can configure the username individually for each app as well.  You can configure the username of the app under the Signon tab in the application itself.

    Is there any way to change the Okta Username format to change the username with which users login to okta portal

    Hi Raja,

     

    I tried to change the app username format to email instead of Okta username. SO, ideally, user should be able to login on app using primary email but that's not happening.

    Can you help here?

    Yes, you can change the username format a user logs in to Okta under the AD/LDAP username configuration.

     

    @Shrawan, try a new user. You might of not updated the current user's name if this is an existing app.

    Thanks for your response Raja.

     

    Can't i make it directly primary email address without updating user's profile in directory configurations? as i had already selected " app username format" as email address.

    I had also tried to unassign user from app and then re-assign it back, that also doesn't work for me. 😞
