Workday full desktop experience on mobile devices via Okta mobile
 

We've made the decision to forgo the WD mobile apps in favor of the full desktop experience in the mobile browsers. Okta mobile is still redirecting our users back to WD's "touch optimized" mobile experience. Since I'm using the builtin integration, I can't edit the redirect URLs to use the ".htmld" pages. Is anyone else doing this, how are you getting mobile users back to the desktop site?

    jYes - you can selectively enable Okta Mobile Connect on a per app basis. Once we turn on Okta Mobile Connect for your Okta org you will see a new mobile tab in each Application's configuration page. The mobile tab will include all the mobile apps that are associated with that app integration. You simply check the box for the apps you want to Okta Mobile Connect enable. We currently have one set of check boxes for both Okta Mobile Connect and for mobile app provisioning through our Okta Mobility Management solution, so not all the mobile apps you see will support mobile single sign on through Okta Mobile Connect (we have plans to split up those check box options). You can always see which apps support Okta Mobile Connect on our website(https://www.okta.com/product/identity-management/single-sign-on.html#mobile-sso), and learn more about Okta Mobile Connect on our support site(https://support.okta.com/articles/Knowledge_Article/Okta-Mobile-Connect).

    Hi Mark - I have not heard of anyone trying to access the full desktop site from a mobile browser. Can I ask why? The Okta Mobile browser is not designed to advertise itself as a desktop browser (for example, like the option you have in chrome or safari to "request desktop site"). How are you authenticating to Workday - SAML or username + password?

    Hi Arturo - Thanks for the reply.

     

    WD recently updated their interface from Flex/Flash to dynamic HTLM5. Because of this the full desktop experience now scales to any device. This give us a much more consistent experience across desktop and mobile devices (since its the exact same pages, anything that a user can do on desktop, they can do on a mobile it just looks a bit different).

     

    I don't need Okta Mobile to advertise itself as full desktop browser. I just need it to redirect authenticated users back to the .htmld pages, rather than the .flex or /t pages. If I step outside of Okta Mobile and use mobile Safari, I can log into Okta, click on the WD icon, and it redirects me to the new dynamic interface just fine.

     

    Below is a link to a pdf from the Workday community that explains their recommendations on what URL to use going forward. Okta is going to have to update their integration to follow these new guidelines; i'm hoping they do so (or at least do it for my org) sooner rather than later. Unless i'm way off on this; my only other option would be to ditch the provided WD integration and use the wizard to refederate; so I can specify the new URLs. I really don't want to do that.d

    Ok - I see, thank you. I will be sure to share\check in with our app integration team to see what are our plans around the new integration flow. I just quickly tested on my device and I see what you mean.

     

    Total side note - have you checked out Workday's latest iOS app update? It also has been updated recently to match the look and feel of their new UI. And, with Okta Mobile Connect iOS users won't have to login every time on the mobile app anymore, they can simply log into Okta Mobile once, and we can then SAML authenticate them into the mobile app. We plan to have a similar solution for Android as well.
