Top Questions

Monitor admin roles that are set to "Constrain this role to the entire organization".

  • Solution: To detect and audit custom admin role grants that are constrained to the entire organization, it is best advised to consult Professional Services; however, Okta Workflows (Real-Time Automation), Event Hook to a Serverless Function (Real-Time External Processing), SIEM Log Parsing (Near Real-Time Alerting), or Okta Access Certifications (Periodic Audit via OIG) are workarounds depending on your tenant.

I'm an OIE tenant trying to get the self-service Unlock Account flow working, but users aren't receiving email/SMS verification.

How can I do an Okta Verify device transfer?

  • Solution: When switching to a new device, Okta Verify doesn’t automatically transfer your account from an iCloud or Google Drive backup because the security token is permanently bound to the original device's hardware. To transfer Okta Verify, select one of three methods based on device availability:
    • Bluetooth Transfer (Old device available): Open Okta Verify on both devices and use the in-app pairing wizard to push your enrollment.
    • Dashboard Self-Service (Old device unavailable): Sign in to your Okta End-User Dashboard via a secondary factor (SMS, WebAuthn/FIDO2) and choose Set up another device under Settings > Extra Verification.
    • IT Helpdesk Intervention: If your old phone is gone and was never registered as a backup authentication method, your account is in a total lockout state, requiring an “MFA Reset for Okta Verify” from your IT administrator.

Why am I receiving a request from a suspicious actor with a 403 DENY error?

What is the impact and import requirements for adding a customer attribution for the Okta login identifier?

  • Solution: Configuring source priority at the attribute level affects only that specific attribute and does not impact existing attributes or their data. However, an import may be necessary depending on how you populate the custom attribute values.

Okta API Search Returns 400 Bad Request Invalid Search Criteria

  • An Okta API search for a user using the distinguishedName attribute returns a 400 Bad Request error because the attribute does not exist by default in the Okta user profile. Map the Active Directory attribute to the Okta user profile to resolve the issue.

Okta Platform SSO Authentication Failures Occur After Upgrading to macOS 27

  • Upgrading to macOS 27 causes Okta Platform Single Sign-On (SSO) authentication failures for some users who previously enrolled in Desktop Password Sync. This issue is fully resolved in macOS 27.2. Upgrade to this version to resolve these errors.

Windows Hello Is Not Supported For Okta FastPass User Verification In Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

  • Okta does not support Windows Hello for satisfying Okta FastPass User Verification in Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments because virtual machines lack native biometric hardware and Okta Verify cannot utilize redirected virtual channels. To satisfy User Verification policies in virtualized operating systems, administrators must deploy Okta Verify Passcode. When deploying Okta Verify and FastPass in VDI environments, Windows Hello biometrics or PINs fail to satisfy User Verification requirements.
