Administration
Automate with Okta Identity Governance APIs
Lawrence York

Have you seen the latest craze in making self-service Access Requests using the Okta governance APIs?

We recently published an article on how to leverage the API’s in ways you may not have thought about! Have you ever wanted to:

  • Create Request Type flows without using the UI (programmatically)
  • Replicate Request Types from one environment to another
  • Clone configuration details for requests or campaigns
  • Create and launch a certification campaign using Okta Workflows based upon an event

These are just a few ways in which you can leverage the Governance APIs to not only streamline mundane tasks but also proactively monitor for security events where approvals or reviews are necessary.

The guide linked below will describe how to use the Governance API’s to create an Access Request using Okta Workflows. In the article, we use Okta Workflows to build a Request Type to obtain a justification for gaining access to a group and then submit it to the requester’s manager for approval. While this is one of many common applications, starting out basic helps grasp the concepts. Once you create one, you can see the possibilities are endless!

Understanding the use and power of the governance API’s will allow you to address many traditional use cases and even more event based ones.
