Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated every year from September 15 to October 15. It gives a space to highlight the community’s diversity and celebrate their cultures.  This year, we sat down with our very own Okta Community aficionado, Alejandra Galindo, who is passionate about her fellow employees and community member base. She is always around to lend a helping hand, and we’re excited to learn about her personal story and what Hispanic Heritage Month means to her. 

What has your experience been like growing up in the Hispanic community? 

I love being part of the Hispanic community! Because of lighter skin, people were/are always surprised when I tell them I’m Hispanic. I’m proud of the community I’m part of.

How has your Latinx heritage influenced your career journey thus far?

My Latinx heritage has greatly influenced my career journey thus far. Seeing how my parents took a risk by coming to America and leaving their families behind has taught me to take risks and never give up. I remember when I was younger, and my dad was teaching my brother and me how to ride our bikes, he would always say, “You can do it!” and for some reason, that has always stuck with me. No matter what obstacle I face, I always try to remind myself that I can do it!

What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you personally? 

This month has made me think a lot about my family and the amazing Latinx community I have around me, whether in the workplace or in my friendships. I hope we all take some time this month to celebrate the Latinx community.

How can we learn and support the Hispanic Community? 

Get involved and support Hispanic organizations in your community! These organizations give you the opportunity to learn more about the culture and ways you can support one another. I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer and connect with Latinx students in high school, sharing my experience in the tech industry and advising them on navigating college applications. I always love meeting and connecting with them!

For Hispanic Heritage Month at Okta, we're celebrating Mexican heritage with a special night at Oracle Park to watch the San Francisco Giants in action. This event aims to bring our community together for an evening of fun and cultural appreciation. In collaboration with Modern Health, we're offering resources that specifically cater to the needs of the Hispanic/Latinx community. These resources include support and upliftment initiatives designed to address the unique challenges and promote the well-being of this community. It's a fantastic opportunity to enjoy baseball, connect with others, and show our solidarity with the vibrant Hispanic/Latinx culture.
