Our Okta Community Ask Me Anything (AMA) with the Okta Identity Engine (OIE) Product Team was packed with intriguing questions, insights, and discussions about our self-service upgrade process aimed at giving you complete control over protecting your apps and resources.

Thank you for the enthusiasm and support we received from our member base of customers, community members, partners, and even Okta employees. As a token of our appreciation, we rewarded participants with a special badge.

Let’s dive into a recap of key highlights and takeaways from our OIE Product expert, Brent Arrington:

Key Highlights:

  • Common misconceptions: Brent emphasized that upgrading to OIE will not impact how downstream federations work. For example, downstream SAML, WS-Fed, and OIDC will continue functioning as-is, with no configuration changes required.

  • Helpful best practices and tips/tricks about upgrading to OIE: It’s important to know that there will only be minor changes to the user experience post-upgrade to OIE. For example, how all the enrolled Authenticators (factors) are presented on the login screen is slightly different (should be less confusing in OIE). It is highly recommended that customers upgrade in a non-prod environment first to test for possible issues and capture these UI/UX changes for end-user comms prior to upgrading in production.

  • New offerings to take advantage of: FastPass is included for all OIE tenants, offering an excellent and consistent user experience across all devices, and enhancing your security posture.
