What Is Org Throttling

Lifecycle Management
Okta Classic Engine
Okta Identity Engine

Overview

Some activities, such as an import job, may create thousands of child jobs. To balance resources, throttling may be implemented, which can lead to delays in job completion.

Applies To

  • Okta Identity Engine
  • Okta Classic Engine
  • Job Throttling

Solution

The specifics of the throttling mechanism are proprietary, but in general terms, Okta employs a fairness algorithm that considers a variety of environmental factors (volume of jobs, database resources, Okta cell health, etc.), which are factored in to ensure the system remains operational.

Throttling is standard practice and an expected part of balancing load. However, where prolonged delays are encountered, Okta may need to review the individual circumstances leading up to those delays to better understand the cause and suggest remedial steps to avoid them in the future.

If Okta performance issues are experienced, please open a case with Okta Technical Support.
