Overview
When a user tries to log in to Okta and enters a username that does not exist, the event will show in the System Log as:
FAILURE: VERIFICATION_ERROR

Cause
When FAILURE: VERIFICATION_ERROR is seen in the system log, it means the username does not exist in Okta.
This error typically appears in the system log when a user mistypes their username at sign-in.
Solution
- Verify the username is being entered correctly.
- Verify the user exists in Okta.
- In the System Log, verify the issue by expanding the event and checking the DisplayName and ID. An unknown value means the user does not exist.
